The age of Hantavirus: a new coronavirus?

May 10th, 17 Americans, who traveled on the cruise ship MV Hondius, were repatriated to the United States. They landed at Offutt Air force base in Omaha, Nebraska and transported to the national quarantine center where the CDC will monitor and test all of the passengers who were likely exposed to this virus. If negative, they will be given the permission to self-quarantine at home for 42 days. One passenger has already tested positive, but it can take 42 days for symptoms to appear.

As of now, there are already 3 dead who traveled on the ship to Saint-Helena, Tristan da Cunha, and Cape Verde. Hantavirus is also the virus that is associated with the death of Gene Hackman’s late wife Betsy Arakwa. Yet, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), the virus does not risk becoming a new covid.

But some experts warn that the CDC is not ready for a new covid. Citing financial cuts and firings of people in key roles. Despite all, the WHO and the CDC claim that the virus cannot spread as easily as covid.
