May 16: lOuisiana Election results

After Landry declared an executive order to suspend the U.S house primary elections, several civil rights groups have already filed lawsuits against the governor. Amongst them are the NAACP and the ACLU.

Despite Gov. Landry suspending the U.S House primary elections, Louisiana still had the Senate primaries and a few amendments that were to be voted on, such as amendment 2 that would have added the Saint George school board on the list of school boards that function as a parish. Saint George, who recently separated from the city of Baton Rouge, wanted its own school board despite still being a part of East Baton Rouge Parish.

May 16th, Louisianans went to vote for five amendments & senate primaries in the state. Louisiana, by majority, voted against all amendments. Two democrats, Jamie Davis & Nick Albares will advance to a run-off election. Davis received 48% of the vote versus Albares’ 26%. For the republican primary, Julia Letlow & John Fleming will face off in the run-off. Letlow, supported by President Trump, received 45% of the vote. John Fleming defeated the incumbent Bill Cassidy with 28% of the vote against his 25%. Louisiana will vote again on June 27.
